Mercy Medical Center Meals on Wheels provides meals primarily to homebound individuals who are 60 years of age or older. Participants must be unable to drive and have no one available to assist them on a regular basis. Referrals are taken from anyone. When a referral is received in the Meals on Wheels office an assessment is performed to determine eligibility. Meals on Wheels are not an emergency food service.
Meals for this program are available on a five-day per week basis and freezer meals are available for the weekends. The meals are prepared in the Nutrition Service department of Mercy Medical Center. A typical meal consists of servings from the protein, vegetable and starch food groups. Dessert, fruit, ½ pint of milk and juice accompany each meal. Special diets are available as needed. The meals are delivered between 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. in the City of Nampa and immediate rural areas.
Meals on Wheels are funded by Federal and State government, Mercy Medical Center and the community. Donations from the program participants are accepted however not required for participation. The Suggested donation is $4.00 per day.
